July Award Ceremony
I was very excited and honoured to be asked by the Police to photograph an award ceremony in Truro for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly BCU. I have always had a great deal of respect for the emergency services and the wide range of situations they are confronted with. I was however stunned and shocked to hear the amazing stories from our area, from community support projects to frightening, abusive and violent situations.
As I moved around the room capturing the proceedings I was listening carefully to all of the stories involving the award recipients. On several occasions I felt the blood drain from my face and found myself compelled to join in the applaud (whilst still holding two cameras). It was utterly apparent why these men and women had been singled out for their actions.
As a member of the local public and a father to a young son I am aghast to think that these types of situations are happening so close on our own doorstep. I certainly don't think the news does enough to highlight to the local community just what an amazing job the Police do and how much dedication and personal sacrifice must be invested. I wanted to take the opportunity here to pass this on to those who were present that evening that I am ever grateful to you all for keeping us all safe.
Thank you to each and every one of you.
